Lompico Leaves Its Bad Reputation Behind
Small Felton community aims to correct 30 year old stereotype with first ever community web site, Lompico.org.
Lompico, CA September 20, 2004 - The small Felton community of Lompico today announced its first ever web presence (www.Lompico.org) aimed at dispelling its 30-year-old stereotype of being a rowdy neighborhood.
Lompicos stereotype of being a rowdy neighborhood was levied on the community in the 60s and 70s when famous rock stars such as Janis Joplin, Jerry Garcia and Hot Tuna played to large, boisterous crowds at the Lompico Community Center next to Lompico Creek. These community concerts attracted large crowds from all over Santa Cruz County that resulted in media coverage portraying Lompico as a hotbed of disorder, instead of the sleepy, creek side community of 500 homes that it is. While the Lompico Community Center changed over the years into the family focused Lompico Park, Lompicos reputation, until today, has not.
Lompico.org dispels Lompicos 30-year-old rowdy stereotype by explaining what the community of Lompico is really like and why Lompico residents have chosen to make it their home. It details the areas extensive list of outdoor activities and attractions, its great quality of life, its miles of running and biking trails, its excellent fishing, kayaking and boating on Santa Cruz Countys largest lake, local parks for relaxing summer picnics, as well as some of Santa Cruz Countys most affordable houses.
Lompico.org is a valuable resource to current and prospective residents as it details all the outdoor activities of the area, local attractions, local accommodation for when friends and family come to visit, Lompico's history, school district information, neighborhood facts and figures, local weather, local services, neighborhood associations that have dedicated their efforts to making Lompico the best community in all of Santa Cruz County and a move-in checklist to help new residents get a jump start on living here.
I created Lompico.org because I wanted to give back to my community, said Lompico resident and Lompico.org Webmaster, Brendan Monahan. When I moved into Lompico in 2001, I was extremely proud of my find but shocked by the response of non-Lompico residents, YOU MOVED FROM SILICON VALLEY TO WHERE? I just got tired of people slandering my neighborhood and decided to do something about it, so I created Lompico.org.
