Dorothy A. "Dot" Smolinski WEST RUTLAND – Dorothy A. "Dot" Smolinski, 67, died Oct. 19, 2018, at Rutland Regional Medical Center in Rutland, VT, after a long illness. She was born Nov. 30, 1950, at home in Orwell, VT, the daughter of Viola and Howard Goulette. Dot was the 11th of 13 children. She graduated from Rutland High School in 1968. She married Bob Smolinski in Castleton, VT, on Dec. 6, 1969. For years, she worked in retail clothing and eventually opened her own womens’ clothing stores, Clothes Quarters and The Comfort Zone in Mendon, Rutland and West Rutland. Also, she managed a large apartment complex in Manitou Springs, CO. The last business that she owned and operated was the Hard Rolls Cafe in West Rutland (currently Mary’s Cafe). Dot’s greatest joy came from caring for and raising children whether they were related to her or otherwise. Coming from a family of 14 children, she was happiest with lots of family around. Each year, she would host a summer family party at her home to celebrate her mother’s birthday, and relatives would come from all over the United States. Survivors include her husband, Bob Smolinski, of West Rutland; sons Robby Smolinski and Tom Dido, of West Rutland; daughter Chrissy (Dave) Moore, of Rutland; granddaughter Revi Cooper, and grandsons Jared and Dylan Moore, of Rutland. Also survived by brother Fred (Lori) Goulette, of Sunrise, FL; sisters Mary Forte, Bette Davis and Patricia Goulette, of Rutland, Charlotte (Michael) Frankiewicz, of Brandon, Judith (Francis) Delorme, of Brunswick, OH, Julia (Craig) Komulainen, of South Paris, ME, Helen (Verlin) Cooper, of West Paris, ME, Susan (David) Markowski, of Florence, VT. Also numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and -nephews, aunts and cousins, as well as numerous close friends in VT, CO, and FL. She was predeceased by her parents Howard and Viola (Reynolds) Goulette; brothers Howard Goulette Jr. and Wilbur Goulette; sister Linda Casey. There will be no calling hours. A Mass will be celebrated on Monday, Oct. 29, at 11 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in West Rutland. A reception will follow the service, at the Smolinski residence, 42 South Lane in West Rutland. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice, preferably one that is child-oriented.
